Psycho-educational Assessment

We are proud to provide psychological assessment and consultation services to school-age children and adults in the province of Alberta. We primarily focus on providing accessible psychological services to all Albertans.

Psycho-educational Assessment

We offer a wide range of services to meet every type of need.
 Our virtually delivered assessment services are administered through Q-Interactive, a comprehensive digital platform, and Adracare, a secure Canadian virtual conferencing platform. All you require is a private room for the student to work in, a computer monitor, stable internet service, and an individual to facilitate set up.

The psychologists on our team are experts on a variety of psychological assessments including; cognitive, academic, behavioural, social-emotional, and others. We are versed in the most current research and evidence-based practices. 

Our thorough assessment process includes; administering tests, direct observations, clinical interviews, a review of documents, and informal procedures. Based on the information collected, we help our clients to better understand their patterns of strengths and weaknesses, tailor strength-based recommendations, aimed at maximizing their potential, diagnose, inform program decisions and eligibility for services and supports.
Services

Cognitive Assessment 
 The assessment process includes:
1. Clinical interviews with parents, teachers, OT, SLP, as well as other professionals and stakeholders, as appropriate, 
2. Review of educational records, 
3. Review of samples of the student work, 
4. Standardized testing. The test battery in a cognitive assessment includes a measure of academic potential, such as the WISC-V, the WAIS-IV, Stanford Binet, or the WPPSI depending on the student’s age. 


Full Psychological-educational Assessment
The assessment process includes: 
1. Clinical interviews with parents, teachers, OT, SLP, as well as other professionals and stakeholders, as appropriate, 
2. Review of educational records, 
3. Review of samples of the student work, 
4. Standardized testing. The test battery in a full psycho-educational assessment includes; measures of cognitive (WISC-V or WAIS-IV), academic (WIAT-3 or WJIV), behavioural and socio-emotional, personality when needed (e.g., Personality Assessment Inventory PAI), and executive functioning (NEPSY, selected subtests, Comprehensive Executive Functioning Inventory, etc.). Some assessments may also include a measure of adaptive functioning such as the ABAS-3 or the Vineland scales. Additional measures may be included to help answer the referral question whenever appropriate. 
5. Debrief session with parents and teachers 
6. Assistance with initial implementation of strategies included in the report. 

Behavioural Assessment 
Behavioural assessments include all steps listed in the full psychological-educational category, except that measures of cognitive and academic functioning are not administered. The test battery in a behavioural assessment may vary depending on the referral question and concerns. However, it might include measures of socio-emotional functioning, executive functioning, screening tools for several disorders (e.g., mood disorders, anxiety disorders autism spectrum disorder, etc.)

Academic Assessment (Single Administration) 
Academic assessments include all steps listed above, except that test administration does not include measures of cognitive functioning, socio-emotional functioning, or executive functioning. The test battery in an academic assessment includes a measure of academic achievement such as the WIAT-3, the WRAT, WJ-IV, or other measures of academic achievement deemed necessary. 

Academic Assessment (Pre and Post intervention)
This test-retest strategy is used to track the student’s response to academic intervention. We use a measure of academic achievement prior to the student start receiving interventions and then after a period in which practice effects are minimized and unlikely to affect the reliability and validity of the assessment.
